🧨 Ep. 235: Terrificon Recap, Spider-Man Villains & Joe's New Sponsor!

TL;DR

This week was all about the epic recap of Terrificon! Joe and Josh shared stories and photos from the convention floor, the poker tournament, and the legendary Cannon Crew Airbnb. We also got a massive info dump on the villains appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Joe unveiled a brand-new sponsor, and we debated the merits of slabbing books with the community.

Terrificon 2025: Under Review

The main event of the episode was the full, in-depth recap of Terrificon!

  • The Vibe: The consensus was clear: Terrificon is a true community event. Both Joe and Josh emphasized that while the con is huge, the real draw is getting to hang out with friends and fellow members of the comic community from all over the country. The lines were massive, but the energy was incredible.

  • The Showdown: The legendary beef between Josh and Nory Jordan came to a head. While there were reports of "a small bout of fisticuffs" and some tense photo ops, Josh sadly confirmed that no Thunderbolts #1s were harmed during the weekend.

  • The Accommodations: The crew gave a full tour of the epic Cannon Crew Airbnb, a party house located just two minutes from the convention center. The tour included a look at the "sleepover vibe" loft, a luxurious shower, and a spot where The Big Beef "airs out the beef".

  • The Verdict: Despite some minor cons like massive crowds, the overall review was glowing. Josh gave the convention a perfect 10.0 White Pages Golden Label, while Joe simply said it was a "great weekend" and he would be back next year.

This week we dove deep into Batman's lore with a major retcon issue from the Silver Age. In this 1956 comic, it's revealed for the first time that Joe Chill was a hired gun, turning Bruce Wayne's war on crime into a personal quest for vengeance against a shadowy conspiracy. Written by Batman's uncredited co-creator, Bill Finger, this issue added incredible new layers to the Dark Knight's mythology.

News & Rumors with The Big Beef

The Big Beef was a bit tired from the convention, but he still brought the news.

  • Spider-Punk Movie: A Spider-Punk animated movie is officially in the works! The fan-favorite character from the Spider-Verse films is getting his own spin-off, continuing Sony's successful run with their animated projects.

  • Brand New Day Villains: A rumor suggests that Tombstone, Boomerang, Tarantula, and Ramrod will all appear in the next Spider-Man film. The crew was hyped for Tombstone but expressed concern that the movie might be getting overcrowded with villains.

  • The Batman Enters Pre-Production: The Batman Part II has officially entered pre-production, with shooting expected to begin in January. The crew was thrilled the film is finally moving forward but made it clear they do not want to see Robin in Matt Reeves' universe.

  • Hawkeye Season 2: Jeremy Renner has stated he's confident that Hawkeye Season 2 will happen, saying his body is ready to return to the physical role after his accident.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you Know? Guy Gardner Wasn't Always a Jerk…

It's true! When Guy Gardner was first introduced in Green Lantern #59 back in 1968, he was a mild-mannered social worker who was second in line for Abin Sur's ring. His infamous arrogant and aggressive personality only developed after a series of traumatic events, including a power battery explosion, being tortured by Sinestro, and suffering severe brain damage that left him in a coma.

ASK THE CREW

Cannon Questions: PSA Slabs, Batman Spec & The Great Slabbing Debate…

The community brought some fantastic questions this week. When asked about the presence of PSA slabs at Terrificon, Joe made a startling observation: he didn't see a single one in the entire room, suggesting the new grading service is still getting its footing in the market. On the spec front, Joe gave his picks for the best Batman keys under $100 with the most upside, suggesting the first appearances of the non-Dick Grayson Robins (Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne) as smart buys. The crew also tackled the age-old question of whether to slab books from a personal collection, concluding that while it's great for preservation and resale, it ultimately comes down to personal preference.
